Old School Farm Pottery began as an intentional collaboration between Julia Whitney Brown, the Old School Farm nonprofit(an urban organic vegetable farm whose mission is to meaningfully employ adults with intellectual disability), MillarRich a jobs placement company for adults with disability, and the Old School Farm to Table Restaurant. Classes often included tours of the organic vegetable farm, and farming demonstrations by all ability employees, restaurant tours and menu options by Chef Kirstie Bidwell made from food from the farm, and the creation of clay art inspired by their engagement with the different programs and people. Eventually the program grew so large the classes where standardized to wheel throwing classes offered every 6 weeks, date nights, kids classes, corporate events, and private parties- with customizable options for farm tours, and resturant engagement. The larger mission of the educational program was to inspire participants to think about the connections between agriculture, clay arts, and food in an inclusive social and working culture.
